A couple of awkwardly dressed strangers unexpectedly walk into an outback pub where regular customers and waiters are awaiting for another long day to come to an end. It turns out the men are coming from Paris to see the pub’s toilet where there is supposed to be a famous Fountain created by Marcel Duchamp, one of the most important world’s work of art.
In 2017 it was 100 years since Marcel Duchamp exhibited his renowned work of art Fountain, which actually was nothing else but a urinal. The original piece is believed to be lost, but its replicas have been subjects of many affairs –namely at exhibitions visitors would urinate into the displayed copies in order to disgracefully show what was the fountain’s original purpose. The Fountain has changed the world of art, although the original is believed to be lost. At its centenary we can ask ourselves: What if somebody has returned the fountain to the toilet? Is it still a work of art?
