In Your Film!
Every year at the end of June, thousands of visitors eager for entertainment gather on the remote Šentviška Plateau in the Municipality of Tolmin. For three days, more than 350 locals take care of them, having organized the Gora Rocka festival for twenty-one years. Through glimpses of performances by musical groups (Big Foot Mama, Vlado Kreslin and Mali bogovi, Magnifico, MRFY, Društvo mrtvih pesnikov, Hamo & Tribute 2 Love, S.A.R.S., Tabu, Fehtarji, Orlek, Fed Horses, Delta Riff, Agan, Ansambl Ikebana, Mačji Kwt, Pižoni, Smacked, Vazz Live, Killing Klub, Brkovi, Kvartet Strmole, Vokalna skupina Snežet with traditional folk musicians), we get to know the organizers of this charity festival, which has grown from modest beginnings into the identity core of the local community.
It has become a meeting point of rural and urban culture, a builder of social cohesion, a place where people meet who otherwise would not, and a generator of relationships that would not occur otherwise. In an age of prevailing individualism, Gora Rocka stands as an expression of collective spirit, and the Šentviška Plateau locals increasingly ask themselves whether they can withstand the pressures of time and whether they will still have the strength to continue a project that has outgrown them all.
After the documentary Sarajevo Safari, I felt the need to make a film with a positive message. Choosing Gora Rocka proved to be the right decision. It is a privilege to meet so many remarkable people—organizers, musicians, and festival visitors—whose event is built on friendship, a sense of belonging, volunteerism, and charity. And, of course, the desire to have fun.
